Ghost of Tsushima is my front-runner for game of the year so far and as you will remember from my initial review I loved just about every aspect of this game when it originally released. I was perfectly happy with the game as it was, but when they announced they would be adding a co-op multiplayer mode with a free update I was beyond excited! I had high hopes for what they would be able to deliver, and they definitely came through.
The new Legends mode is presented as a separate option in the main menu and should be available after completing chapter 1 of the main story. The mode will start by running you through a tutorial, which is voiced by Uncle Iroh 🤩, that lets you get a feel for each of the four classes you can choose from. You get to choose from: Samurai, Assassin, Hunter, and Ronin. Each of the classes has certain things they do well, and they all feel well balanced and viable in their own ways.
The Samurai specializes in close range combat and initially has the special ability to draw life from enemies close by in order to heal while fighting. The Assassin has the ability to disappear into the shadows and strike enemies for huge damage, I like using this ability to turn invisible and revive allies without being seen. The Hunter focuses on bow combat and has a class ability that allows them to hit 3 (or once upgraded, 5) headshots. When this ability is paired with a certain legendary bow it can wreak havoc on waves of enemies and makes this one of the strongest classes. Finally, we have the Ronin. The Ronin is quite possibly the most important class in the game due to the fact that it can revive and heal all of your allies with it’s ability. You also get a spirit dog you can summon to fight alongside you, which is of course the best thing ever.
Whether you want to squad up with 3 other friends to take on survival missions that consist of 15-25 rounds depending on the difficulty, or you and a friend just want to run through the story missions you are bound to find something to enjoy with this offering. The Legends update has a lot to sink your teeth into and I can see myself jumping into this pretty frequently for the foreseeable future. Especially with the raid that was just recently announced to be coming on Oct. 30th!
If you liked the main story campaign of Ghost of Tsushima then I have no doubt you will love this update. I recommend everyone checks this out, especially if you have some friends you can hop in with. Being able to coordinate everything you do with friends makes it all feel better, but chatting with random players online seems to be a fine way to play as well. If any of you are playing and want to squad up, you can find me on psn as Supermexican052! Feel free to add me!
